(Greencastle, PA)  F&M Trust continued its long-standing tradition of supporting local 4-H projects by purchasing livestock including a hog, a goat, and a pair of steers at the Franklin County 4-H Club sales in August and September at the Greencastle Livestock Market.

Renee Preso, Assistant Vice President and Southern Franklin County Market Manager, represented the bank at the 4-H Club livestock sales. In August, the bank purchased a hog from Jesse Wade, Chambersburg and a goat from Claudia Hissong, Greencastle.

At the 76th Annual Franklin County 4-H Baby Beef Club Sale on September 24th, she purchased a Charolais from Nathan Statler, Greencastle, and a Crossbred companion steer from the Grand Champion shower Samuel Wingert, St. Thomas. Last year the bank purchased the Reserve Grand Champion from Wingert.

On the day of the Baby Beef Club Sale, steers are judged in a roundup on confirmation where a grand champion and reserve champion are selected from the nearly two-dozen animals presented. Each animal sold at the sale had a predetermined market value promised by a packer.  The buyer pays the difference between the market value and final bid.

The Franklin County 4-H Baby Beef Club is a non-profit organization funded solely through the proceeds from their Franklin County Fair food stand and from contributions made by businesses and individuals. Through the Baby Beef project, youngsters spend time working with, training, and caring for their animals - - - many will use the money earned at the sale to pay for their steers and their feed, buy a new one and possibly add to a college fund.

F&M Trust is an independent community bank headquartered in Chambersburg with approximately $1 billion in assets.  With twenty-five community-banking offices in Franklin, Fulton, Cumberland, and Huntington Counties, the bank has offices in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Mont Alto, Greencastle, Marion, St. Thomas, Shippensburg, McConnellsburg, Warfordsburg, Hustontown, Newville, Carlisle, Boiling Springs, Camp Hill, and Orbisonia.
