(Chambersburg, PA) F&M Trust donated $10,000 toward construction of Franklin County’s 9/11 Memorial at the Letterkenny Chapel.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the memorial, William E. Snell, Jr., President & Chief Executive Officer of F&M Trust, presented a check to Rev. William Harter, chairman of the Letterkenny Chapel Committee, and 9/11 Memorial Fund committee members G. Warren Elliott and Charles Sioberg. The United Churches of the Chambersburg Area (UCCA) and 9/11 Memorial Fund committee have set a campaign goal of $250,000 to $300,000.
The 9/11 Memorial will consist of a sculpture including three steel beams from the World Trade Center. Sculptor Michael Fisher will arrange the beams on a 10-foot square granite clad base to resemble the collapse of the buildings following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The sculpture will weigh nearly a ton and will be completed in time for Armed Forces Day on May 19, 2012.
The memorial will be surrounded by a walkway lined with flags representing police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and 911 responders. In addition, a walkway lined with flags from the five military services will lead from the 9/11 Memorial to the future site of a veterans’ memorial.
