Carlisle CARES officially opens resource center
(Carlisle, PA) Carlisle CARES recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the resource center for the homeless completed in February.
More than 30 businesses and community groups donated products and manpower to the center’s construction and, with the tremendous support of the community, officials say the project was completed for half of the estimated cost.
Following the ribbon cutting, staffers and board members including Carlisle CARES Board President Kevin Stoner, assistant office manager at F&M Trust, gave tours of the new center to guests and local dignitaries.
The resource center provides showers, laundry, a kitchen, telephone service, mailboxes and storage lockers, as well as a wellness room and case management services. Computers are also available for those who visit the center to search for jobs and create resumes.
The center can handle a maximum of 30 people at a time. About 20 to 25 homeless people use the facility daily. The center is open from 7 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, according to Shari Bellish, CARES executive director.
