| F&M Trust supports Fix JB Sports Campaign
F&M Trust President & CEO Bill Snell and VP Trish Hanks present a check for $25,000 to “Fix JB Sports” campaign chairs Mary-Anne Gordon, Senator Rich Alloway and John Stoner.
(Chambersburg, PA) F&M Trust has pledged $25,000 to the Fix JB Sports Campaign Committee to support the group’s efforts in raising private funding for improvements to athletic facilities at James Buchanan High School and throughout the Tuscarora School District.
Fix JB Sports, working with the James Buchanan Athletic Boosters Association, is partnering with the Tuscarora School District to improve James Buchanan athletic facilities, many of which are over 35 years old and some no longer meet state and league standards. The Fix JB Sports Campaign Committee’s mission is to ensure that student athletes have facilities comparable to other districts and have the opportunity to compete in a safe environment. In addition, the committee’s focus is to improve the overall wellness of the community by providing access and a positive environment for exercise and fitness training.
In July 2009, the partnership resulted in a $400,000 project to replace the dirt running track with a new rubberized surface. The new track is now open for community usage and recently hosted the first home track meet in 12 years. With the track installed and repairs and enhancements to the High School Natatorium underway, the committee has embarked on a $1.965 million Capital Campaign entitled Our Children, Our Community, Our Future to complete the upgrades to the athletic facilities.
In addition to the Natatorium improvements, the campaign will seek funds for new lockers, a scoreboard, sound system, bleachers, and expanded square footage for a classroom and storage area. Additional improvements to Rocket Stadium will include restrooms, a new concession stand, a designated parking area for spectator convenience and safety, and the installation of synthetic turf for increased field usage. Also, the campaign will fund relocation and replacement of the tennis courts, which are severely cracked and deteriorated due to age and poor site drainage.
